Located along the Thames River, the settlers of Ledyard, CT used this as a mode of transportation. The town is named after a Revolutionary War officer, Colonel William Ledyard, who was killed during the Battle of Groton Heights. The town still has a military presence as the Naval Submarine Base New London is located just south of Ledyard and employs a large number of Ledyard residents. Being so rich with history, Ledyard is an amazing place to visit. Just ask the residents!
